New Jobs in the Hemp Industry

Hemp farming is at an all-time high. With a predicted revenue of $20 million from CBD products this year, a lot of farmers want to convert their lands from growing traditional crops like tobacco and vegetables to hemp production. This is evidence that the hemp industry is booming, and it needs professionals.

The earliest records of the use of hemp go back to 2800 BCE in China as well as the Mediterranean countries of Europe. The crop is mainly used for its fiber for paper, textiles, construction materials, and fuel. Currently, experts are particularly interested in hemp extracts like CBD. Therefore, a lot of new job roles are being created to support the burgeoning hemp market. Here are some of the latest jobs in the hemp industry.

Cannabis Extraction Technician

These professionals make sure that products made from hemp do not contain any psychoactive chemicals. Usually, CBD is extracted from hemp with CO2 and other techniques. This separates THC and other components from the plant. This job offers a reasonably good salary, depending on the employee's level of expertise and experience.

Cannabis Research

Despite the lack of funding and the stigma from some health professionals and pharmaceutical companies, some brave individuals continue to study the cannabis plant. Cannabis researchers are continuously working to find evidence on the benefits of hemp and the possible ways to use the product.

Hemp Plant Scientists

Cannabis researchers also work with hemp plant scientists who basically conduct studies of hemp on a large scale corporate hemp farm. They investigate how hemp production is affected by environmental conditions and how to manage these conditions to yield better crops. Professionals working as hemp scientists are usually required to have a Ph.D. in Horticulture and 3-5 years of experience in environment agricultural management. They should also be able to conduct complex studies and must be professional enough to deliver timely and cost-effective results.

Edible CBD Chefs

CBD-infused foods and drinks have been trending in New York. A survey showed that 77 of the 650 professional chefs would like to come up with a menu of CBD-infused foods. CBD chefs should have the right training to handle CBD as an ingredient in cooking and should have specialized training in using cannabutter. Adding CBD to a dish requires a delicate skill as the chef must pay attention to the concentration of CBD in the meal.

Marijuana Dispensary Jobs

CBD dispensaries are mushrooming all over the country, and there is a need for workers to maintain them. This job category includes tasks like bud-tending, front desk/reception, management, and security. In general, these individuals should be knowledgeable about CBD to be able to educate customers. They should also have the right attitude to make them feel at home and at ease.

The hemp industry is growing fast and is expected to generate a lot of jobs in the future. With the 2018 Farm Bill's decriminalization of hemp, states have started issuing hemp-growing and manufacturing licenses. This means more workers are needed to get things done.

Although cannabidiol has been used in many cultures for centuries, it is just coming into its own in the American marketplace. Often referred to simply as CBD, this product is just one of the 104 known chemical compounds found in the marijuana plant. Collectively known as cannabinoids, there is no psychoactive component to CBD. This means the product does not produce the “high” associated with its related cannabinoid, THC.
